where else does this tune of hopelessness fit? Does it have to?

RWBY is a very hopeful show overall, and while this is clearly meant to be Ruby's darkest hour (everyone's really, but especially Ruby due to unresolved trauma with Summer on top of everything else), I feel like by the end of vol 9 that will be mostly resolved, so. I'm very curious to see how much this track carries into future volumes, though. So, I think it's obvious this one's from Ruby's perspective, her losing hope throughout the volume and trying anyway only to fail in the end. My one (teensy tiny) gripe is the transition to the second verse seems kinda sudden, but in the grand scale of things that's nothing at all. Might be my top opening song also (at very least it's top 3).

My favourite song of vol 8, knocked it out of the park even before we had the full release.

There is a sense of finality that hints that we are approaching the end, perhaps the series will only have 12 volumes at most, and I think that is a good amount to tell the remaining story as it seems we're hitting a crescendo in terms of action and plot.Ĭasey is as always excellent in her performance and her father's haunting backing vocals with his terrific guitar and drums only adds to the feeling of distress. The path to victory fades away (literally the ability to rise above). "Maybe it's just fantasy, a foolish goal we can't achieve.?" Normally a lyric like that would be followed up with some reassurance or the necessity of trying as hard as possible with the glimmer of hope. It is a realization from the characters (Both Ruby and Ironwood's factions) how far they've messed things up. V7 - (Will this be the day.) That we always Feared? V7 - Defeat the Hate through Love - Trust our Hearts But even more so it throws all other themes and questions their intentions and possibility. Now the new lyrics take up the theme of the start and foreshadow V9. The only bright spot is "Maybe the path that will lead our way home will finally clear.?" When, having finished the volume is simply not true and it's pairing with Penny in the opening makes the only light in the song associated with a strong melancholy, bravo! What a triumph of a song! I loved how dark and oppressive this entire song was which fit V8's hopeless theme. Will this be the day that we've always feared? Maybe the end we tried to avoid is already hereĪll that remains, the end of the tale, is worse than we fearedĪll that remains, collapsed in the void, drowning in tears Maybe the path that leads our way home will finally clear
